Update 01.143 - Bug Fixes and Improvements

    This week’s update brings another round of bug fixes and improvements. We're also trying something new today, bringing you the first in an upcoming series of Space Engineers dev diaries.
    In the developer diary this week, our programmer Michal will tell you a bit about animations he's been working on, particularly the new things he's added and some of the final touches on the system. Right now we support synchronizations between layers and also support reading variables from the environment, so the animation is completely driven by the game and not vice-versa.
    Michal is working on stabilizing the first person camera and smoothing out the behavior of the 3rd person camera, and he will also show you the inverse kinematics for the feet of the character. This means that if you're running on an asteroid, the character snaps his feet correctly to the surface of the asteroid. This also applies to animals (for example, spiders). He's also improving the weapon animation and positioning in the game, which should be much smoother than before.
    Finally, in the 3rd person, we're using animation from our artists rather than the code. This improves appearance while running. We can also use animation for driving the weapon position for complicated situations like holding the weapon while running.

    - fixed character with no head when in remote control
    - fixed impossible to move issue during lock on merge block by landing gear
    - fixed disconnected Hydrogen Thrusters causing ship to sink in an atmosphere
    - fixed clicking on the slider for Suspension Travel greys out controls on the block
    - fixed respawn on DS not working correctly
    - fixed crash on loading blueprint
    - fixed "safety locked" Large to Small rotor moves around a lot
    - added .NET environment in the log
    - fixed controlled ship falling down on planet

    The only problem we have found with AMD hardware is that AMD Cool'n'Quiet sometimes tries to scale back processing power when the game is running. The workaround is to adjust or disable Cool'n'Quiet.
    Other issues with AMD GPU's seem to affect diverse hardware and will take some time to improve as we continue work on the render engine.

    Nice animations, specialy like legs of spider copy surface of asteroid :tu: +spiders in space ? I hope no one forget construct security MG turrets inside ship. :D
    ( just noticed when you fast runing with astronaut + weapon, weapon in FP is still aim forward when model hold it near hip in diferent position )

    I didn't test it but this inverse kinematics does/will apply to stairs too?

    Suggestion: sprinting and going sideways feels very diffrent to other first person shooter games.
    really feels stupid if u sprint forward and when you go sideways you are suddendly much slower.
    maybe enable "sideways sprinting" to offer a smoother behaviour when running around.

    Is that meant to be a positive or negative observation? Is it something that you believe should be fixed? It's pretty typical from what I've seen of games that offer both 1st and 3rd person perspectives. I personally feel a greater level of immersion when the things that I am wielding are in my field of view when I'm playing in 1st person. The request for hyper-realism that I (perhaps incorrectly) interpret from your observation would detract from my 1st person experience. If it was VR, it would be a different story and I would expect my weapon to rest at a more natural position in 1st person, but alas, we do not have head tracking in Spess Enginars.

    1.) Fair enough, but not rabble-rousing enough for me, personally.
    2.) I kind of prefer it, actually.
    3.) Maybe add expanding categories? That way it can once again become the cluttered twelve car pileup that it once was, but won't be such a disorganized mess that I'm forced to search for everything anyway.
    4.) Can't argue with that. One question though: is this a classic pitchfork and torch lynching?
    5.) No thanks. I don't care for League.
