I wonder what they eat.... I hope it's not engineers *__*
*scratches head* Ain't that the same thing? The sun's stuck to the skybox too so it's gotta have "physically" defined boarders, no?
Well maybe they gnaw your braking thrusters
No. The skybox and atmosphere effects are two different things. The atmosphere effect is visible from outside the planet. It's an actual sphere around the planet (although the effect kinda obscures this fact), rendered in world space. A skybox is a box, really a box, that is rendered in camera space (where you're looking from), making it seem like it's very far away.
The sun is a decal, it's not a part of the skybox. It is a square with a sun texture on it, and it rotates (separate from the skybox) around the 0,0,0 point in camera space.
I think that about covers it.
We all know how well moving dynamic parts do in this game, can't wait to see this spider explode on it's first step.
Potassium could be for fertilizers for farms. Like a block that runs on solar energy and potassium to create food, or something like that.
Helium is a popular cooling agent in industrial applications. It could be used in almost all blocks (in theory).
I wonder what the Radar block will be like. I hope it will be a general scanning block to help you find derelict ships, that have no antennas and such, also to scan for ores on long distances. But it also could be a motion detector like in the movie Alien, to warn you from approaching Sabiroids. So you'd be mining some ore, when suddenly you'd hear a beeping. You head over to you radar block and see a large number of red dots heading towards your position.
Also, because someone asked: I tried to load the Radar Block in the ModelViewer and it failed loading the model. That's probably because there are no textures for it yet. Not even fake/dummy ones like with the Sabiroid (though, that ones normal map already looks quite decent and final).
Hoooolyy crap I'm totally up for chopping trees and making it a commodity, with luxurious wooden walls.
The spider is a model like your astronaut. It has nothing to do with the dynamics of ship grids.
Those are most likely leftovers from when the game already had those ores, many years ago.
And rotors will be the best defense against them. Just build one that goes crazy and smacks everything to death around it!
Not even once.
For those of you who wanted a size comparison, here is the Sabiroid, as seen from space.
I wouldn't even be mad. That would make an amazing boss for an engineering game.
I hope we can catch them and keep them as pets on our ships.
*marek, can i keep it? can I? can i? oh pleaaaaase *
You know what would be awesome? If Keen made the creatures and vegetation procedural, like No Man's Sky. I think I'd need some new underwear.
With Sabiroids, you can collect Chitin - which is important in creating armor. Domesticated, they can be useful in collecting thatch and fiber... wait, this is still Space Engineers, right?
Probably not gonna happen.
Did someone say Compound Blocks?!
Yeah, but I can still dream.
If they give it a ragdoll body, it could glitch out just like the ragdoll astronaut has in the past.
Hehe... I wouldn't be surprised.
The glitching engineer IS the sabiroid
The Enginspider to Jeff Goldblum's Brundlefly?
Wait a minute... TELEPORT CHAMBERS FOR SPACE ENGINEERS CONFIRMED!
Could this be the source of implementing food? Herds of domesticated Sabiroids, milk them for... whatever they leak. Pick up the moulted exoskeletons to make lightweight armor blocks (their shell is a naturally occuring carbon fibre composite) Then when they get too old to be... milked(?) you shell them like crabs for lunch.
Nutritious, abundant, and tasty!
Or implementation of food isn't for us, its for them. Or rather we are for them.
I spppose the above would still apply:
Herds of domesticated space engineers...
We already have that, look into the industry ^^
My whole career is a lie! Thats why the canteen at work serves junk, we are being fattened! Puts 'mandatory retirement age' in a whole new perspective...
Now that I think of it, if Keen wants SE to be their test ground for their General AI project....I can imagine these things figuring out which parts of your base are more dangerous than others, finding holes in your defenses or when you are most vulnerable...
