    Killer Vanilla: Fortnightly Building Contest

Hi everyone! Welcome to a building contest dedicated to those with the will to resist the dark side of the workshop, to those who rage endlessly at Keen for not adding their demo mods to the base game and to those who's creativity thrives when restricted to just a few paltry, poorly textured placeholder blocks. This, my friends, is for the hardcore. This is Killer Vanilla.

This competition is designed to balance style and substance. Submissions will be tested in their role in 1x Survival with meteors off unless specified. Submissions will be judged on Aesthetics, Performance, Suitability and Survival Capability and given a score out of ten for each, giving a maximum score of 40. Up to 10% bonus points may be given for particularly witty or amusing lore. Up to 15% bonus point may be given for automation of the test via autopilot and the PB. Submissions should be ready for immediate survival use, and points will be deducted if my astronaut dies through a lack of air, fuel or other similar design failure. Each round will have a set test for submissions in order to judge if they are suitable in their role.

    The Rules
Submission must not, in any circumstances, use Mods. Not even a little bit. Not even Keen Mods. Skyboxes for screenshots are allowed, as are in-game scripts.

Submission must be a blueprint and available on the workshop at least two days before the next competition, as this competition should normally start on a Sunday evening, this will usually be a Friday. This gives entrants twelve days between specification and deadline.

One submission per entrant per fortnight.

Plagiarism is forbidden, but use of proven mechanisms and systems others have invented is legit, although credit must be given.

Submissions must meet the competition specification. 5% margin of error is allowed. I.e If there is a 10,000Kg limit, ships weighing less than 10,500Kg will be accepted.

Submissions must be suitable for the competition. I.e If the competition specification asks for a Frigate, don't submit a Battle Station.

Existing ships may be entered, but can not have been on the workshop for more than three months. I'm looking for fresh ideas. Extensive refits will be considered on a case by case basis.

Submissions must be posted on the appropriate submissions thread with a link to the blueprint, a maximum of TWO SCREENSHOTS ONLY and a short description.

Submissions must be survival ready and filled with fuel, oxygen and ammo as applicable.

Submissions must work in Space Engineers 2 player low latency (80Mbps Down, 20Mbps Up) multiplayer.

No Grav Drives, Grav Braking or Gravity based manoeuvring. Clarification: Do not use a Gravity Generator and Artificial Mass/Spaceball on the same grid or an attached grid for the purpose of improving performance. Player made systems that utilise a GG and AM/SB, but use a merge block or rotor to detach a payload, are fine.

Examples: Does the submission look the part? Is it painted? Is the lighting suitable colours? Is it original, unusual or inspiring? Do people go “oooooo, that's cool”? Does it look like dull, grey box?

Examples: Is the submission fast enough? Is it tough enough? Does it carry enough cargo? Does it turn fast enough? Does it stop fast enough?

Examples: Does the submission do what it's meant to do? Do I find that it is easy to do what I want to do with it? Is most of the ship dedicated to the role specified? Do rotors, pistons or other complex systems cause more problems than they solve? Does it pass the test?

    Survival capability

Examples: Is this ship useful in survival? Can I build it with a projector? Does it lose oxygen too easily? Is it efficient to build and maintain? Are there enough Cryo Pods for the number of crew? Is it easy to load ammo/fuel/oxygen?

While all entrants are encouraged to submit original or unusual designs, please be aware that these ships will be tested in Survival Multiplayer. That means not only do you need to design your ships to meet the specification, they will also need to be netcode proof too. Exploding pistons, rotor related decapitations and rogue small ships will lose you points. I told you it was hardcore.

Don't build overly complex ships, rough and ready is the name of the game. I should be able to get in and go straight away, no complex instruction manual required.

Submissions will be expected to be dedicated to their role. If the contest asks for a fast and agile small warship, adding refineries would be relatively pointless, as the extra weight actually reduces the ships capability in its role. Alternatively, if the specification asks for a large cargo vessel, forward facing rocket launchers are redundant as the ship probably cannot turn fast enough to effectively use them.

    The respect of your peers.

Seriously though, all winners will be invited to judge in future rounds. Points will be averaged between judges. If and when three reliable judges are found to run the competition, I will abdicate my position and attempt to win it back. Your name and a link to your submission will also be posted at the top of this thread. I may pick up a few games in the next steam sale to be used as prizes for later rounds if this competition is popular.

So, anybody up for it? I know there's plenty of vanilla players out there, it's time to show us all your skills!

If you find any obvious exploits/typos/problems with this competition, do let me know.

Thanks for reading, please post questions below and submissions in the relevant submissions thread.
