Having Trouble with Dedicated server / Dynamic IP / DNS

    Im only hosting the SE server, i tried CSGO only when everything I could think of didn't work.
    I have a completely fresh install of Windows Server 2012 R2, so the only other things running are stuff that come with the default Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard installation.

    My setup:
    I've got a fiber "hole" straight from my ISP (they have the switch/modem/thingy) in the basement of our apartment complex.
    And from the fiber "hole" I've got a cabel to the Router, and this server is running straight from the router (no modem functionality in the router).
    Ports are open in the router, and for the "internal IP" of my server.
    My server have the static internal ip of "192.168.0.101"
    Windows firewall disabled

    I've got only one instance of SE Dedicated server running on: 0.0.0.0:27016, I've also tried 1337, 1338 and 1340 (opening ports for all ofcourse). But nothing worked :(

    You might want to change your Static internal ip, because 192.168.0.101 might be conflicting with the routers dynamic ip allocation, for example my router allocates dynamic ips from the range 192.168.1.100 - 150 that's why i made my ip 192.168.1.251, so it wouldn't conflict with other ips. might be the problem

    Ive bound the 192.168.0.101 ip to the MAC-adress of my server, and there is no conflicts (all nodes in my LAN have a set static IP bound to itself)

    Does this mean that your router's IP pool only extends from .100 to .150? Or is that just its range for dynamic IP's on your local network?

    My router's pool extends from 192.168.100.2 to 192.168.100.255, while the router itself has 192.168.100.1. My server's local IP, being static, is 192.168.100.20, as this is bound by its MAC address in the router's config.


    So long as it falls within the same IP range as your router, then this sounds correct.

    Ok I just reinstalled my server to a fresh Windows Server 2012 R2 Enterprise (a real license, nothing pirated, downloaded straight from MSDNAA).
    I disabled the windows firewall.
    I connected my server straight to the modem (i skipped the Router completely).
    My server got bound to "my" external ip.
    And I was able to ping my friends, and they could ping my server.
    Moved the Dedicated server.zip file from the tools folder to an USB.
    I connected the USB to my server I extracted it and ran the Space Engineers Dedicated server.exe (from the 64bit folder).
    I created a new instance, named it "Test" used the default settings.
    Pressed the Save & start
    Waited for it to start, and still no one could connect :(

    I have no problem hosting other services on my home network, I normaly host:
    Minecraft server
    CSGO server
    Mumble
    A Node.js server
    Emailserver
    Webbserver (php through IIS)
    And some other stuff.

    This was the LOG I got from this run (No router, straight to the "internet", and no firewall, still no one able to connect).

    That is the range it dynamically assigns local ips. i assume it can extent to 251 because i can run other server with that local ip.

    I am not sure, in this case, how come both of you are having such trouble hosting your SE servers. Your setups seem absolutely correct.

    Yes, normally, routers have an IP pool that extends from .1 to .255, although this can be configured differently naturally, but can not be greater than 254 entries.
    If your pool ends at .200, and you have a device that's set to use .201, this device would not be able to communicate with other devices on the network, and most likely also has issues communicating with the internet.

    Hey,

    I have been doing all kinds of crazy stuff, i sniffed the packets from and to my server and client and nothing wrong there (my friends who can't connect, still gets information from the server on the correct port (Server name, groupId0 metadata, view distance and some other stuff I cant remember.)

    Anyway! Its now possible to connect to my server through the in game "Join world" browser (if you can find it). But it's not possible to join with the "steam://connect/{ip}:{port}" url :(

    I have no clue, if I did something honestly.

    I've forwarded ports, opened up the firewall. And I use a groupid. Just the normal stuff I guess?
    Binding ip: 0.0.0.0
    Port: 1340
    Steam Port: 1339
    GroupId: (I'm at work right now, so I don't really have this in my head)

    I now have Windows Firewall activated with these open ports: 1339-1340, 27000-27050, 4379-4380 and 3478
    Aswell as opened these ports on my router.

    This is all I've done (Thats different from a default windows 2012 server installation and space engineers dedicated server installation)

    Just as an FYI for future use, I found using the default port 27016 was causing problems for me, when I used a different port (35xxx), everything was fine.
    it could be some weird contention or overloading since thats the same port everyone uses
