I BP'd the lander and the rover and went to creative. The rover is the lander with the seat and gear removed, a conveyor replaces the seat with the cockpit stock in front. Also some of the blocks that ring the view are removed si the cockpit can sit back 1 block. Then a few blocks changed/added under for mounting wheels. A gyro is mounted on top of the chute block.

In playing with, instead of using a conveyor, you can replace the small right angle conveyor behind where the seat was with a small junction. then stick an engine in there on it's side and the cockpit in front. Or move the seat to the side and use a remote. The engine would solve power problems. Also you can remove a couple armor blocks on top and lay the antenna and ore scanner down, then stick a solar on top for slower fuelless recharge.

I am looking at doing the rotor trick on top to mount a large grid ore scanner. THe small grid only has a range of 50m which seems to be less then the hand held drill at ~75-80.

Question: The large grid ore scanner says it has a max range of 150m in the list, but it seems you get double, 300m in front. So pointing it forward doubles your range in that direction. Does that work with the small grid scanner also? not the 100m is all that much.
