Update 01.118 - Planetary Tutorials, Improved lighting effects, Bug-fixes

    Summary
    This week we are adding Planetary tutorials for new and returning players to help them survive and use all the mechanics and resources properly on the planets - for example, how to use wheeled vehicles.
    We have improved the visual fidelity of spotlights and beacons, and also added reflection to glass and shiny surfaces. From now on you will be able to navigate much easier in indoor environments.
    Additionally, we have improved the performance by reducing the amount of particles without sacrificing the quality of the effects and the overall look and feel.

    Important message for those who are using custom skins on characters, especially modders. Due to a fixed oxygen consuming bug the game may crash when using custom skin on characters.     Who thought it was a good idea to have the actual game content limited to a tiny 1/4 of the video? Do we really need to see the person who is speaking?

    Otherwise, this update freakin rocks. I've been waiting so long for lighting improvements - it's one of the biggest factors that always took me "out of" the game.

    Joel's clearly getting more comfortable and or the teleprompter is more centered on the camera :)

    i haven't found any new bugs yet in the few seconds i tried it just to see the new lights (they look better at first glance)

    Awesome update Keen.

    I like that not only did you guys mention the new features but you also snuck in a warning for a new known issue regarding custom player skins. Maybe more creepy crawly bug info in future updates? I would not mind hearing about what bugs you guys are trying to squash during the next update cycle.

    Keep up the great work Keen. And as always thank you for keeping this game going.

    :Edit: Btw Solar Panels look much much better now that they have a proper reflective surface.

    Dear Keen, tell me this havok crash is what cause the mining client freezing T.T

    Mining is the core of the game, it's impossible to play in survival without mining freezing the game randomly D:

    Probably the person who is speaking. @Xocliw's still experimenting with the format and i'm sure your opinion - which i mostly share - is valuable feedback to him. To my knowledge he doesn't get any hard directions for the videos from above so it's him trying to figure out the best way to do things. I'm fairly sure a 50/50 percentage between game video and him is possible and probably desireable, or an even bigger percentage for the game considering Xoc's a slim one. I'd also second somthing i read in the Youpoop comments; in case of stuff like the Interior Lights i'd appreciate a Before-After comparison (though that's probably pointless as making the lighting situation any worse would be hard to pull off unless they expand the DX11 Blindfold to lit rooms.). Other than that great video, fine patch and performance increases are always nice.

    Yup, I really am hoping that DS performance boost will be noticeable. Great update, thank you!

    Could you guys give us some info whether you are working on changing sim speed connection to max speed on DS? Currently, it is pretty impossible to leave the planet atmosphere if there are more than 7 players on the server, very offputting for the new players ;(

    There's a (nice) typo at the end of the video though.
