Update 01.125 - Updated Character Model, New Ambient Sounds

    Summary
    This week brings a new and updated character model into the game featuring an animated visor and PBR textures. This also brings more modding possibilities for your custom characters, so check out the helmet animation modding guide below. Other small features include pulsing highlights and new ambient sounds which create a better atmosphere in the game. Also, we fixed the freezing/crashing caused by mining on dedicated servers. Multiplayer optimizations continue with more blocks being rewritten in the new multiplayer code.

    Fixes
    - fixed mining freezing/crashing the whole server
    - fixed crash when Gatling gun is destroyed
    - fixed crash when drilling
    - fixed crash when starting the game
    - fixed mining not possible on some asteroids
    - fixed updating of workshop items
    - fixed too many sounds playing together
    - fixed helmet lights are behind character
    - fixed unable to pick up objects
    - fixed turret sound playing several times, instead of just once
    - fixed too opulent logs (removed unnecessary information that were fill up the log file)

    Yay!
    New model looks great. Not being able to remove the helmet at will, while sad, is more realistic IMO.
    Time to make some Jaffa serpent helmets...

    @Drui what about community fixes?
    From testing it looks like the following are in for sure:
    Power/Gas resources in PB, and IMyInput are now in.

    I really hope, that intrigue was not only in new char model, but also in that big smooth planet, which looks very unusual.

    PS: And I would like the "abyss" to be blue, liquid and with some fish in it.

    PPS: Mining rocks on planets still crashes the game, F#%$! :mad::mad::mad::eek:ops:
    PPPS: Keen has fixed this^^^^ in friday patch. Oh yes.:D:):p

    I'm sorry but dat new model is an epic waste of time. Why even bother if you're not going to improve and/or alter it? Is this the kind redundant redo that prevents FemGineers from happening? What's next, new and improved cube-shaped Armor Blocks? Revolutionary round wheels? What's the purpose of a new model that's barely distuingishable from the old one when the old one was working fine?

    (Also: that pulsing looks stupid. Before the highlighting on the Doors looked like a nice huge LED around the door, very immersive. Now it's just a visual effect on your monitor... Bah.)
    ((Also also: bird sounds without birds. I like birds. I am expecting complementary birds and/or packhunting Tyrannorsaurs next week.))

    Edit: soooooo here's a question.
    I was immediately wondering "So how do they do the Suit's light when the helmet is off? Wasn't there talk about a Shoulder Mount?"

    As it turns out the better question to ask is: where's the option to remove the helmet? Med Bay isn't offering is, the J-button only opens the tuna can. Am i missing it? Did i misread something?
    Where's my helmetless Treebeard, @Xocliw?

    This opens a whole new can of worms - instead of using the very well received idea of a Shoulder Mount someone at Keen thought it was a bright idea to not just NOT use it but instead take away one of Treebeard's features. That's detrimental to immersion; yes, it's silly that the helmet just disappears, and Treebeard desperately needed a modelled neck to hide the empty helmet cavity, but NOW where's having him unable to remove a helmet we know is easily removeable. We've effectively taken player avatar customization options away. We've taken a small snippet of immersion away. And we've done it while wasting dev time (apparently scarce, precious dev time, according to Marek). For an inferior result.

    I didn't even like the highlighting before, I dislike it even more now.
    The floating object highlight I'm ok with, but not the block highlighting.

    As for femgineer, Marek said if there was a good IP free one, they'd look at integrating it. I'd like some more variety myself (non-bearded one, for example).
    As others have mentioned, there *is* a female model in ME, but I don't know what's the hold up on releasing it. Maybe it's for another feature. I think they should wrap up the model and put the head into SE.

    I can't say I'm a fan of strobing highlights. Do we get a choice. My front door doesn't strobe when I walk up to it nor do I wish it to. The rest, well, OK.

    so what do you propose that the KSH graphic artists and animators do, meanwhile the programmers do bugfixing ? ???

    I agree that the pulsing dont look too good at all.
